Abu Mu'awiyah told us: al-A'mash told us, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: Fever asked permission to enter upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: "Who is this?" It said: "Umm Mildam (Mother of the Blood, i.e. Fever)." He said: So he ordered it be sent to the people of Quba, and they suffered from it what Allah knows. They came to him and complained of that to him, so he said: "As you wish - if you wish I will pray to Allah for you and He will remove it from you, or if you wish it can be a means of purification for you." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you really do that?" He said: "Yes." They said: "Then leave it."
