The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'The believers will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection and will say: If only we could seek someone to intercede for us with our Lord. So they will come to Adam and say: You are the father of mankind; Allah created you with His own hand and made the angels prostrate to you and taught you the names of all things. Intercede for us with your Lord so that He may relieve us from this place. He will say: I am not the one for this — and he will mention his sin. Go to Nuh. So they will go to Nuh, who will say: I am not the one for this — and he will mention his sin. Go to Ibrahim. They will go to Ibrahim, who will say: I am not the one for this — and he will mention his sin. Go to Musa. They will go to Musa, who will say: I am not the one for this — and he will mention his sin. Go to Isa. They will go to Isa, who will say: I am not the one for this. Go to Muhammad (peace be upon him). They will come to me, and I will say: I am the one for this. I will seek permission from my Lord and will be given permission. He will inspire me with praises that I do not know now. I will praise Him with those praises and fall prostrate before Him. He will say: O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted. I will say: O Lord, my ummah, my ummah! He will say: Go and take out of the Fire whoever has in his heart the weight of a grain of barley of faith. I will go and do so. Then I will return and praise Him with those praises and fall prostrate. He will say: O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted. I will say: O Lord, my ummah, my ummah! He will say: Go and take out whoever has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of faith. I will go and do so. Then I will return and praise Him with those praises and fall prostrate. He will say: O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and you will be heard, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted. I will say: O Lord, my ummah, my ummah! He will say: Go and take out whoever has in his heart the tiniest, tiniest, tiniest amount of faith. I will go and do so.' Anas said: 'It is as if I am looking at the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).'
