حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَالَ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنَامُونَ ثُمَّ يُصَلُّونَ وَلَا يَتَوَضَّئُونَ.

Abu Talhah said to Umm Sulaym: 'I noticed weakness in the voice of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and I think it is from hunger. Do you have anything?' She said: 'Yes.' She took out some barley loaves, wrapped them in her veil, put them under my arm, and sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I found the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in the mosque with people. I stood near them. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Did Abu Talhah send you?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'For food?' I said: 'Yes.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to those around him: 'Let us go.' He went, and I went ahead of them until I reached Abu Talhah and informed him. Abu Talhah said: 'O Umm Sulaym, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has come with people, and we do not have enough to feed them.' She said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' Abu Talhah went out to meet the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and they came together. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Come, O Umm Sulaym, bring what you have.' She brought the bread. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) broke it up, and Umm Sulaym poured ghee from a container over it to season it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said what Allah willed him to say and said: 'Let ten come in.' They came in and ate until they were full, then left. Then he said: 'Let ten come in.' They came in and ate until they were full, then left. This continued until all had eaten — they were seventy or eighty men.
