حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ حَسَّانَ أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَارَةُ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَذَ ثَلَاثَ حَصَيَاتٍ فَوَضَعَ وَاحِدَةً ثُمَّ وَضَعَ أُخْرَى بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَرَمَى بِالثَّالِثَةِ فَقَالَ هَذَا ابْنُ آدَمَ وَهَذَا أَجَلُهُ وَذَاكَ أَمَلُهُ الَّتِي رَمَى بِهَا.

Abd al-Samad ibn Hassan told us, 'Umarah told us, from Thabit, from Anas, that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, took three pebbles, placed one down, then placed another before him, and threw the third, and said: "This is the son of Adam, this is his appointed term, and that which he threw is his hope."
