Aswad ibn Amir told us: Isra'il and Hajjaj told us, they said: Shu'ba told us: Amr ibn Amir al-Ansari told me, he said: I heard Anas ibn Malik say: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought a cup of water and performed ablution with it. Amr said: I said to Anas: "Did he perform ablution before every prayer?" He said: "Yes." I said: "And what about you?" He said: "We used to pray the prayers with a single ablution." Then I asked him again afterward, and he said: "As long as one has not broken it."
