Abu al-Mughirah told us, al-Awza’i told us, he said: Qatadah wrote to me, saying: Anas ibn Malik told me, he said: I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them, and they used to begin the recitation with "Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds," not mentioning "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" at the beginning of the recitation or at its end.
