حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ يَهُودِيًّا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْمُ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا قَالَ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ السَّامُ عَلَيْكُمْ قَالَ رُدُّوا عَلَيَّ الرَّجُلَ فَرَدُّوهُ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقُولُوا عَلَيْكَ أَيْ عَلَيْكَ مَا قُلْتَ.
انگریزی ترجمہ
Abdullah ibn Bakr told us: Sa'id informed us, from Qatada, from Anas, that a Jew came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was with his companions, and said: As-samu alaykum (death be upon you). The people returned the greeting to him. The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do you know what he said? They said: Yes. He said: As-samu alaykum. He said: Bring the man back to me. So they brought him back, and the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Did you say such and such? He said: Yes. The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When one of the People of the Book greets you, say, Alayka - that is, upon you be what you said.
