Affan told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, from Ali ibn Zayd, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The servant remains in a state of prayer as long as he stays in his place of prayer awaiting the [next] prayer; the angels say: 'O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him' - until he leaves or breaks wind." I said: "What does 'breaks wind' mean?" He said: [the narrator continued] I said this to Abu Sa'id, and he said: "He passes gas silently or audibly."
