Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar informed me, from al-Zuhri, from Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: Some people from the Ansar came and asked him, and he gave to them. He continued so that whenever any of them asked him, he gave him, until what he had was exhausted. Then, when he had spent everything in his hand, he said to them: "Whatever good we have, we will never withhold it from you. Whoever seeks to abstain [from asking], Allah will make him abstain; whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whoever seeks patience, Allah will grant him patience. No gift better or more abundant than patience has ever been given to anyone." Ishaq ibn Isa told us, he said: I heard Malik ibn Anas, from al-Zuhri, from Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who mentioned the like of its meaning.
