Hasan b. Musa narrated to us, Hammad b. Salamah narrated to us, from Ali b. Zayd, from Sa'id b. al-Musayyab, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The last of those to come out of the Fire will be two men. Allah will say to one of them, 'O son of Adam, what did you prepare for this day? Did you do any good, or did you hope in Me?' He will say, 'No, my Lord.' So he will be ordered to the Fire, and he will be the most regretful of the people of the Fire. And He will say to the other, 'O son of Adam, what did you prepare for this day? Did you do any good, or did you hope in Me?' He will say, 'Yes, my Lord; I used to hope, when You brought me out, that You would never return me to it.' Then a tree will be raised up for him, and he will say, 'My Lord, let me stop beneath this tree, that I may take shelter in its shade and eat of its fruit and drink of its water.' He will say, 'O son of Adam,' and He will make him pledge not to ask for anything beyond it, and He will bring him close to it. Then another tree, more beautiful than the first and with more abundant water, will be raised up for him, and he will say, 'My Lord, this one - I will not ask You for anything beyond it - let me stop beneath it, that I may take shelter in its shade and eat of its fruit and drink of its water.' He will say, 'O son of Adam, did you not pledge to Me not to ask for anything beyond it?' He will say, 'My Lord, this one - I will not ask You for anything beyond it.' So He will let him stop beneath it and make him pledge not to ask for anything beyond it. Then a tree will be raised up for him at the gate of Paradise, more beautiful than the first two and with more abundant water, and he will say, 'My Lord, I will not ask You for anything beyond it - let me stop beneath it, that I may take shelter in its shade and eat of its fruit and drink of its water.' He will say, 'O son of Adam, did you not pledge to Me not to ask for anything beyond it?' He will say, 'My Lord, this one - I will not ask You for anything beyond it.' So He will let him stop beneath it and make him pledge not to ask for anything beyond it. Then he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and he will not be able to restrain himself, and he will say, 'My Lord, admit me to Paradise!' He will say, Blessed and Exalted is He, 'Ask and desire.' And Allah will inspire him with what he has no knowledge of, so he will ask and desire for a measure of three days of the days of this world. Then He will say, 'O son of Adam, you shall have what you asked for.'" Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: "And its like along with it." Abu Hurayrah said: "And ten times its like along with it." Then one of them said to his companion, "Narrate what you heard, and I will narrate what I heard."
