Isma'il narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu Nadrah, who said: I asked Ibn Abbas about currency exchange, and he said, "Hand to hand?" I said, "Yes." He said, "There is no harm in it." Then I met Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and told him that I had asked Ibn Abbas about currency exchange and he said there was no harm in it. He said, "Did he say that? We shall write to him, and he will not give you that verdict again." He said: "By Allah, some of the young men of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, once brought dates, and he did not recognize them, and said, 'It seems these are not from the dates of our land.' He said, 'There was some deficiency in our dates this year, so I took these and added a bit extra.' He said, 'You have doubled the wrong, you have practiced usury! Do not go near this. If something about your dates concerns you, sell them, then buy whatever you want of dates.'"
