حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَجِيءُ النَّبِيُّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَمَعَهُ الرَّجُلُ وَالنَّبِيُّ وَمَعَهُ الرَّجُلَانِ وَأَكْثَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَيُدْعَى قَوْمُهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ هَلْ بَلَّغَكُمْ هَذَا فَيَقُولُونَ لَا فَيُقَالُ لَهُ هَلْ بَلَّغْتَ قَوْمَكَ فَيَقُولُ نَعَمْ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ مَنْ يَشْهَدُ لَكَ فَيَقُولُ مُحَمَّدٌ وَأُمَّتُهُ فَيُدْعَى مُحَمَّدٌ وَأُمَّتُهُ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ هَلْ بَلَّغَ هَذَا قَوْمَهُ فَيَقُولُونَ نَعَمْ فَيُقَالُ وَمَا عِلْمُكُمْ فَيَقُولُونَ جَاءَنَا نَبِيُّنَا فَأَخْبَرَنَا أَنَّ الرُّسُلَ قَدْ بَلَّغُوا فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ { وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَاكُمْ أُمَّةً وَسَطًا } قَالَ يَقُولُ عَدْلًا { لِتَكُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًا }.

Abu Mu'awiyah told us: al-A'mash told us, from Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "A Prophet will come on the Day of Resurrection with one man [following him], and another Prophet with two men, and more than that. His people will be summoned, and it will be said to them, 'Did this one convey [the message] to you?' They will say, 'No.' Then it will be said to him, 'Did you convey it to your people?' He will say, 'Yes.' It will be said to him, 'Who will testify for you?' He will say, 'Muhammad and his nation.' Then Muhammad and his nation will be summoned, and it will be said to them, 'Did this one convey [the message] to his people?' They will say, 'Yes.' It will be said, 'And how do you know that?' They will say, 'Our Prophet came to us and told us that the messengers had indeed conveyed [their messages].' That is [the meaning of] His saying, "And thus We have made you a middle nation"" - he said, meaning, just - ""that you may be witnesses over mankind, and the Messenger a witness over you.""
