Muhammad ibn Ubayd told us: al-A'mash told us, from Isma'il ibn Raja', from his father, who said: The first to bring out the pulpit on the day of the festival was Marwan, and he was the first to begin with the sermon before the prayer. A man stood up and said, "O Marwan, you have opposed the Sunnah; you have brought out the pulpit, though it was not used to be brought out, and you have begun with the sermon before the prayer." Abu Sa'id said, "Who is this?" They said, "So-and-so, son of so-and-so." He said, "As for this one, he has fulfilled what was upon him. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith.'"
