570/738 عن عبادة بن الوليد بن الصامت قال: خرجت مع أبي وأنا غلام شاب، فنلقى شيخاً[ عليه بردة ومعافري، وعلى غلامه بردة ومعافري]، قلت: أي عم، ما منعك أن تعطي غلامك هذه النمرة(1)، وتأخذ البردة، فتكون عليك بردتان، وعليه نمرة؟ فأقبل على أبي، فقال: آبنك هذا؟ قال: نعم. قال: فمسح على رأسي وقال: بارك الله فيك، أشهد لسمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول:"أطعموهم مما تأكلون، واكسوهم مما تكتسون". يا ابن أخي، ذهاب متاع الدنيا أحب إلي من أن يأخذ من متاع الآخرة. قلت: أي أبتاه! من هذا الرجل؟ قال: أبو اليسر[كعب]بن عمرو.

'Ubadah ibn al-Walid ibn al-Samit reported: I went out with my father while I was a young man, and we met an old man. I said: O uncle, what prevents you from giving your servant this cloth and taking the other garment, so you would have two garments and he would have a lower one? He turned to my father and said: Is this your son? He said: Yes. He wiped my head and said: May Allah bless you. I testify that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'Feed them from what you eat and clothe them from what you wear.' O nephew, losing worldly possessions is dearer to me than having something taken from my Hereafter.
