Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Whoever prays a prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Quran (Surah al-Fatihah), it is deficient, it is deficient, it is deficient — incomplete.' (Abu al-Sa'ib says:) 'I said: O Hadrat Abu Hurayrah, sometimes I am behind the imam.' He pressed my arm and said: 'O Persian, recite it silently to yourself, for I heard the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: "Allah the Exalted said: I have divided the prayer (i.e., Surah al-Fatihah) between Myself and My servant into two halves — half of it is for Me and half is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Recite — the servant says: 'Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'alamin (All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds),' Allah the Almighty says: 'My servant has praised Me.' The servant says: 'Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim (The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful),' Allah the Almighty says: 'My servant has extolled Me.' The servant says: 'Maliki yawmid-din (Master of the Day of Judgement),' Allah the Almighty says: 'My servant has glorified Me.' The servant says: 'Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in (You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help),' Allah says: 'This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.' The servant says: 'Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqim, siratal-ladhina an'amta 'alayhim, ghayril-maghdubi 'alayhim walad-dallin (Guide us to the straight path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favour, not of those who have earned anger nor of those who have gone astray),' Allah says: 'All of this is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.'"'

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: جس نے ایسی نماز پڑھی جس میں اُمّ القرآن (سورۃ الفاتحہ) نہ پڑھی تو وہ ناقص ہے، وہ ناقص ہے، وہ ناقص ہے — پوری نہیں۔ (ابوالسائب فرماتے ہیں:) میں نے عرض کیا: اے حضرت ابوہریرہ! میں کبھی امام کے پیچھے ہوتا ہوں۔ فرمایا — میرا بازو دبا کر فرمایا: اے فارسی! اسے اپنے دل میں پڑھو، کیونکہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو ارشاد فرماتے سنا: اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا: میں نے نماز (یعنی سورۃ الفاتحہ) کو اپنے اور اپنے بندے کے درمیان دو حصوں میں تقسیم کیا — آدھا میرے لیے ہے اور آدھا میرے بندے کے لیے، اور میرے بندے کے لیے وہ ہے جو اس نے مانگا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: پڑھو — بندہ کہتا ہے: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ» اللہ عزّ وجل فرماتا ہے: میرے بندے نے میری حمد کی۔ بندہ کہتا ہے: «الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ» اللہ عزّ وجل فرماتا ہے: میرے بندے نے میری ثناء کی۔ بندہ کہتا ہے: «مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ» اللہ عزّ وجل فرماتا ہے: میرے بندے نے میری تمجید کی۔ بندہ کہتا ہے: «إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ» اللہ فرماتا ہے: یہ میرے اور میرے بندے کے درمیان ہے اور میرے بندے کے لیے وہ ہے جو اس نے مانگا۔ بندہ کہتا ہے: «اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ * صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ الضَّالِّينَ» اللہ فرماتا ہے: یہ سب میرے بندے کے لیے ہے اور میرے بندے کے لیے وہ ہے جو اس نے مانگا۔
