Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10125 حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السِّمْسَارُ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ أنا خَالِدٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ وَالنَّاسُ يُسَلِّمُ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ عَبْدُ اللهِ سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ غَضَبِ اللهِ وَغَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ سَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْكَ فَلَمْ تُرَدَّ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لَشُغْلًا»
English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud went to the land of Abyssinia while people used to greet one another during prayer. When 'Abdullah returned, he greeted the Prophet (peace be upon him) and he did not respond. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished, he said: "I seek refuge in Allah from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger! I greeted you and you did not respond." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, there is engagement in prayer."
