Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10121 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ كُنَّا نَتَكَلَّمُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ يُسَلِّمُ بَعْضُنَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ وَيُومِئُ أَحَدُنَا بِالْحَاجَةِ فَجِئْتُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ فَأَخَذَنِي مَا قَدُمَ وَمَا حَدُثَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ يُحْدِثُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ مَا شَاءَ وَإِنَّهُ قَدْ أَحْدَثَ أَنْ لَا تَتَكَلَّمُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ»
English Translation
'Abdullah said: We used to speak during prayer — greeting one another and gesturing about our needs. One day I came while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was praying, and I greeted him but he did not respond. I was overcome with anxiety. When he finished, he said: "Indeed, Allah Most High decrees from His command whatever He wills, and He has decreed that you should not speak during prayer."
