Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10052 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَخَارَ فِي الْأَمْرِ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصْنَعَهُ يَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ؛ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ اللهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا خَيْرًا لِي فِي دِينِي وَخَيْرًا لِي فِي مَعِيشَتِي وَخَيْرًا لِي فِيمَا أَبْتَغِي بِهِ الْخَيْرَ فَخِرْ لِي فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَيَسِّرْهُ ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ خَيْرًا لِي فَاقْدِرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ»
English Translation
Abdullah reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that when he sought guidance [istikhara] regarding a matter he intended, he would say: 'O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge and I seek strength by Your power and I ask of Your great bounty, for You have power and I do not, and You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if this is good for me in my religion and my livelihood and in what I seek of goodness, then decree it for me in wellbeing and make it easy, then bless me in it. And if something else is better for me, then decree good for me wherever it may be.'
