English Translation
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to us and said: 'I have been commanded to recite to your brethren from among the jinn. Let a man among you stand with me, and let no man stand with me who has in his heart even a mustard seed's weight of arrogance.' So I stood with him and took a water skin containing nabidh. I went with him, and when he was in the open, he drew a line around me and said: 'Do not leave it, for if you leave it, you will not see me nor will I see you until the Day of Resurrection.' Then he went and disappeared from my sight. At the break of dawn he came back and said: 'I see you are still standing?' I said: 'I did not sit.' He said: 'What if you had?' I said: 'I feared I would leave it.' He said: 'If you had left it, you would not have seen me nor would I have seen you until the Day of Resurrection. Do you have water for ablution?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'What is this water skin?' I said: 'It contains nabidh.' He said: 'A wholesome date and purifying water.' So he performed ablution and led the prayer. After the prayer, two men from the jinn came and asked him for provisions. He said: 'Did I not provide for you and your people what would suffice you?' They said: 'Yes, but we wanted some of us to attend the prayer with you.' He said: 'Where are you from?' They said: 'From the people of Nasibin.' He said: 'These two have succeeded, and their people have succeeded.' He designated dung and bones for them as food and meat, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade cleaning oneself with bones or dung.
