Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:9894 حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أنا عَاصِمُ ابْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ وَحَمَّادٌ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَكُلِّ مَلَكٍ نَعْلَمُ اسْمَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ هَذَا فَقَدْ دَخَلَ فِي قَوْلِكُمْ كُلُّ مَلَكٍ وَكُلُّ نَبِيٍّ وَكُلُّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ»
English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud said: We used to say in prayer: 'Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril and Mika'il and every angel whose name we knew.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Do not say peace be upon Allah, for indeed Allah is al-Salam.' Then he taught us: 'All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. When you say this, every angel and every prophet and every righteous servant is included in your words.'
