English Translation
Abu Rafi' narrated: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was sleeping or receiving revelation, and there was a snake in the side of the house. I disliked killing it and waking him, so I lay down between him and the snake — if anything happened, it would be to me instead of him. He woke up reciting the verse: {Your ally is none but Allah and His Messenger and those who believe} and said: "All praise is due to Allah." He saw me beside him and said: "What made you lie down here?" I said: "Because of this snake." He said: "Get up and kill it." I killed it. He praised Allah, then took my hand and said: "O Abu Rafi', there will come after me a people who will fight 'Ali. It is a right upon Allah to strive against them. Whoever cannot strive against them with his hand, then with his tongue. Whoever cannot with his tongue, then with his heart. There is nothing beyond that."
