English Translation
Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, from Arim Abu al-Nu'man, from Hammad ibn Zayd, from Mansur ibn al-Mu'tamir, from Ibrahim, from Hammam ibn al-Harith that Ibn Muqarrin asked Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and said: 'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, I swore not to sleep on my bed for a year.' Abdullah recited this verse: {O you who believe, do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors} [5:87]. 'Expiate your oath and sleep on your bed.' He said: 'I am well-off.' He said: 'Free a slave.'
