English Translation
A man came to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and asked him about the verse 'And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be successful.' He said: 'I am a man who cannot let anything leave me, and I fear this verse has applied to me.' Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: 'You have mentioned miserliness, and what a terrible thing miserliness is. But what Allah mentioned is not what you said. Rather, it is that you deliberately take the wealth of others or your brother and consume it.'
