English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud said: 'A man from the Children of Israel, when he sinned, would find written on his door in the morning: You committed such and such sin, and its expiation is such and such deed. Perhaps he would be embarrassed that others would know it.' Ibn Mas'ud said: 'I would not like Allah the Almighty to give us that in place of this verse: "And whoever does evil or wrongs himself then seeks forgiveness from Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful."'
