Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8694 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ إِذَا سَأَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ عَنِ الْآيَةِ فَلَا يَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ وَلَكِنْ يَقْرَأُ مَا قَبْلَهَا ثُمَّ لْيَحُلْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ حَاجَتِهِ
English Translation
'Abdullah said: "When one of you asks his brother about a verse, he should not just say 'such-and-such' — for that is not binding. Rather, let him recite what comes before it, then let the reciter stop at the point in question."
