Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8476 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الطُّوسِيُّ ثنا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْهُذَلِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ ا��لهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ دُفِعْتُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ إِلَى أَبِي جَهْلٍ وَقَدْ أُقْعِدْتُ فَأَخَذْتُ سَيْفَهُ فَضَرَبْتُ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ رُوَيْعِينَا بِمَكَّةَ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِسَيْفِهِ حَتَّى بَرُدَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَتَلْتُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ عَقِيلٌ وَهُوَ أَسِيرٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَذَبْتَ مَا قَتَلْتَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلْ أَنْتَ الْكَذَّابُ الْآثِمُ يَا عَدُوَّ اللهِ قَدْ وَاللهِ قَتَلْتُهُ قَالَ فَمَا عَلَامَتُهُ؟ قُلْتُ بِفَخِذِهِ حَلْقَةٌ كَحَلْقَةِ الْجَمَلِ الْمُلْحِقِ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ
English Translation
'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: I was pushed (by the crowd) on the Day of Badr toward Abu Jahl, who had been brought down. I took his sword and struck his head. He said: "A mere shepherd boy from Makkah!" I struck him with his sword until he was dead. Then I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I killed Abu Jahl." 'Aqil, who was a prisoner with the Prophet, said: "You lie! You did not kill him." I said: "Rather, you are the sinful liar, O enemy of Allah! By Allah, I killed him." He said: "What is his identifying mark?" I said: "On his thigh there is a ring-shaped scar like the brand-mark of a stallion camel." He said: "You have spoken the truth."
