Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:7837 حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَمَّا أُنْزِلَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ أَنْزَلْتَنِي إِلَى الْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْتَنِي رَجِيمًا أَوْ كَمَا ذَكَرَ فَاجْعَلْ لِي بَيْتًا قَالَ الْحَمَّامُ قَالَ فَاجْعَلْ لِي مَجْلِسًا قَالَ الْأَسْوَاقُ وَمَجَامِعُ الطُّرُقِ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي طَعَامًا قَالَ مَا لَا يُذْكَرُ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي شَرَابًا قَالَ كُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي مُؤَذِّنًا قَالَ الْمَزَامِيرُ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي قُرْآنًا قَالَ الشِّعْرُ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي كِتَابًا قَالَ الْوَسْمُ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي حَدِيثًا قَالَ الْكَذِبُ قَالَ اجْعَلْ لِي مَصَايِدَ قَالَ النِّسَاءُ
English Translation
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When Iblis was sent down to earth, he said: 'O Lord, You have sent me down to earth and made me accursed, so give me a house.' Allah said: 'The bathhouse.' He said: 'Give me a gathering place.' Allah said: 'The marketplaces and the crossroads.' He said: 'Give me food.' Allah said: 'Whatever the name of Allah is not mentioned over.' He said: 'Give me drink.' Allah said: 'Every intoxicant.' He said: 'Give me a caller (mu'adhin).' Allah said: 'Musical instruments.' He said: 'Give me a scripture.' Allah said: 'Tattoos (or branding marks).' He said: 'Give me speech.' Allah said: 'Lying.' He said: 'Give me traps.' Allah said: 'Women.'"
