English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood one day and began the prayer, then he saw phlegm on the qiblah wall. He removed his sandals, then walked to it and scraped it off. He did this three times. When he finished his prayer, he turned to face the people and praised Allah, then said: "O people, when one of you stands in prayer, he is standing in a great position before a great Lord, asking for a great matter - winning Paradise and being saved from the Fire. When one of you stands in prayer, he stands before Allah facing his Lord, with his angel on his right and his companion (devil) on his left. So let none of you spit in front of him or to his right, but to his left under his left foot, and then let him rub it firmly, for he is rubbing the ear of Satan. By the One Who sent me with the truth, when the veils are lifted between you and him, or he is permitted to speak, he (Satan) will complain about what he suffers from that."
