Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:7628 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عِقَالٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّرَائِفِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ عَنْ هُودِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شَدَّادًا أَبَا عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا يَلْتَمِسُ الْخَيْرَ وَالذِّكْرَ مَا لَهُ؟ قَالَ «لَا شَيْءَ لَهُ» يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ «إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ لَا يَقْبَلُ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ إِلَّا مَا خَلَصَ لَهُ وَابْتُغِيَ بِهِ وَجْهُهُ»
English Translation
Abu Umamah reported: A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what about a man who seeks goodness and recognition - what is his reward?' He said, 'He has nothing.' He said that three times. 'Indeed Allah, the Almighty, does not accept any deed except that which is sincerely done for Him and by which His Face is sought.'
