English Translation
'A'ishah narrated that Abu Hudhayfah ibn 'Utbah ibn Rabi'ah — who was a veteran of Badr — had adopted Salim, known as Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, just as the Prophet (peace be upon him) had adopted Zayd. Abu Hudhayfah married Salim — considering him his son — to his niece Fatimah bint al-Walid ibn 'Utbah, who was among the early female emigrants and was at that time one of the finest unmarried women of Quraysh. When Allah revealed concerning that what He revealed: "Call them by their fathers" — each of those adopted was attributed back to his father, and if his father was unknown, he was attributed to his patrons. So Sahlah bint Suhayl, the wife of Abu Hudhayfah — from Banu 'Amir ibn Lu'ayy — came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to consider Salim as a son, and he used to enter upon me when I was in light clothing, and we have only one room. What do you think?" He said: "Breastfeed him and you will become forbidden to him."
