Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5730 لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ خَيْبَرَ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخَذَ الرَّايَةَ فَقَالَ «أُعْطِي هَذِهِ الرَّايَةَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ» فَتَطَاوَلَ النَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ مَنْ يُعْطِيهَا فَدَعَا عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَعَلِيٌّ أَرْمَدُ فَبَصَقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهَا إِيَّاهُ فَفَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ خَيْبَرَ وَنَحْنُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخَذَ الرَّايَةَ فَقَالَ «أُعْطِي هَذِهِ الرَّايَةَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ» فَتَطَاوَلَ النَّاسُ يَنْظُرُونَ مَنْ يُعْطِيهَا فَدَعَا عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَعَلِيٌّ أَرْمَدُ فَبَصَقَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهَا إِيَّاهُ فَفَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ
English Translation
Sahl ibn Sa'd said: On the Day of Khaybar, while we were with the Prophet (peace be upon him), he took the banner and said: "I shall give this banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger." The people craned their necks to see who would receive it. He called 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), and 'Ali had sore eyes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) spat in his eyes, then gave him the banner, and Allah granted victory through him.
