English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam said: I was in a military expedition. I heard 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy say: "Do not spend on those with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse. If we return to Madinah, the honorable will expel the humble from it." I mentioned that to my uncle — or to 'Umar — who mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He sent for me and I told him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent for 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy, and he swore he had not done it. The people blamed me, and I felt great sorrow until Allah revealed the Surah: "When the hypocrites come to you..." (63:1).
