Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:4060 حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَلُولٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْمُقْرِئُ ثنا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَسْلَمُ أَبُو عِمْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ قُلْنَا بَيْنَنَا بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ سِرًّا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أَمْوَالَنَا قَدْ ضَاعَتْ فَلَوْ أَنَّا قُمْنَا فِيهَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ فِي كِتَابِهِ يَرُدُّ عَلَيْنَا مَا هَمَمْنَا بِهِ {وَأَنْفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَلَا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ} فِي الْإِقَامَةِ فِي الْأَمْوَالِ وَإِصْلَاحِهَا وَتَرْكِ الْجِهَادِ وَالنَّفَقَةِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ﷻ
English Translation
Abu Ayyub reported: We said among ourselves secretly from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "Our properties have been ruined. If only we could go and tend to them." Then Allah revealed in His Book, responding to what we had intended: "And spend in the cause of Allah and do not throw yourselves into destruction" — [meaning destruction is] in staying with the properties and attending to them and abandoning jihad and spending in the cause of Allah, the Exalted.
