English Translation
Al-Sha'bi reported from al-Rabi' ibn Khuthaym, who said: "Whoever says: 'There is no deity except Allah, alone, without partner; to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise; He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things' — it will be as if he freed four persons from the descendants of Isma'il." Al-Sha'bi said: "I asked al-Rabi': 'From whom did you hear it?' He said: 'From 'Amr ibn Maymun.' I went to 'Amr ibn Maymun and asked: 'From whom did you hear it?' He said: 'From Ibn Abi Layla.' I went to Ibn Abi Layla and asked: 'From whom did you hear it?' He said: 'From Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, narrating from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).'"
