English Translation
'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hassan narrated from his father Hassan ibn Thabit who said: 'We, the Ansar, had a need from the governor, and what we sought was a difficult matter. We went to him with men from Quraysh and others. They spoke to him and mentioned the recommendation of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) regarding us. He mentioned the difficulty of the matter, so the people excused him and left. But Ibn 'Abbas persisted with him, and by Allah, he had no choice but to fulfill our need. We went out until we entered the mosque, and the people were in their circles. Hassan said: I laughed as I heard them saying: By Allah, he was the most deserving of you for it. By Allah, it is the remnant of prophethood and the inheritance of Ahmad (peace be upon him), the refinement of his roots and the extraction of the likeness of his qualities. The people said: Be moderate, O Hassan. Ibn 'Abbas said: They spoke the truth. Then Hassan composed poetry praising Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).'
