English Translation
Jabir said: "When 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr was killed on the Day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Jabir, shall I not inform you of what Allah said to your father?' He said: 'O My servant, ask Me whatever you wish and I will give you.' He said: 'O Lord, return me to the world so I may be killed in Your cause a second time.' He said: 'I have decreed that they shall not return.' He said: 'Then convey my state to those I left behind.' So Allah revealed: 'And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision' (3:169)."
