English Translation
Talhah said: I was in charge of the Prophet's saddle and his perfume. A man came asking for one of them, and the Prophet said: 'That is up to Talhah ibn Ubaydillah.' The man came to me and I refused. He went back to the Prophet and the same exchange happened several times. Then I said to myself: He would not keep sending him to me unless he wanted his need fulfilled, for the Messenger of Allah hardly refused any request. I thought: caring for the Prophet's person is dearer to me than his saddle. So I gave the saddle away. When the Prophet wanted to travel and ordered it saddled, the man prepared the saddle. When it rose with the Prophet, it lurched. He asked: 'Who saddled this?' They said: 'So-and-so.' He said: 'Return it to Talhah.' Talhah said: By Allah, I never deceived anyone in Islam except him, so that the Prophet's saddle would be returned to me.
