English Translation
Jabir ibn Samurah said: "When a funeral was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him), he would ask: 'Does he have any debts?' If they said yes and there was someone to pay it, he would pray over him. Otherwise he would say: 'Pray over your companion.' When Allah granted conquests, he said: 'I am more deserving of the believers than they are themselves. Whoever dies leaving a debt, I will pay it. And whoever dies leaving wealth, it is for his heirs.'"
