Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:1609 حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ النَّضْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ أَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ أَكْرَهُ أَذَى قُرَيْشٍ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُمْ سَيَقْتُلُوهُ خَرَجْتُ حَتَّى لَحِقْتُ بِدَيْرٍ مِنَ الدَّيْرَاتِ فَذَهَبَ أَهْلُ الدَّيْرِ إِلَى رَأْسِهِمْ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ حَقُّهُ الَّذِي يَنْبَغِي لَهُ ثَلَاثًا فَلَمَّا مَرَّتْ ثَلَاثٌ رَأَوْهُ لَمْ يَذْهَبْ فَانْطَلَقُوا إِلَى صَاحِبِهِمْ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ قُولُوا لَهُ قَدْ أَقَمْنَا لَكَ حَقَّكَ الَّذِي يَنْبَغِي لَكَ فَإِنْ كُنْتَ وَصِيًّا فَقَدْ ذَهَبَ وَصِيَّتُكَ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ وَاصِلًا فَقَدْ نَالَكَ أَنْ تَذْهَبَ إِلَى مَنْ تَصِلُ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَاجِرًا فَقَدْ نَالَكَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ إِلَى تِجَارَتِكَ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُ وَاصِلًا وَلَا تَاجِرًا وَمَا أَنَا بِنَصِيبٍ فَذَهَبُوا إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ لَهُ لَشَأْنًا فَسَلُوهُ مَا شَأْنُهُ قَالَ فَأَتَوْهُ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللهِ إِلَّا أَنِّي فِي قَرْيَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَابْنُ عَمِّي يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ فَآذَوْهُ قَوْمُهُ وَتَخَوَّفْتُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُ فَخَرَجْتُ لِأَنْ لَا أَشْهَدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَذَهَبُوا إِلَى صَاحِبِهِمْ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ بِقَوْلِي قَالَ هَلُمُّوا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقَصَصْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَصَصِي وَقَالَ تَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَتَعْرِفُ شَبَهَهُ لَوْ تَرَاهُ مُصَوَّرًا؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ عَهْدِي بِهِ مُنْذُ قَرِيبٍ فَأَرَاهُ صُوَرًا مُغَطَّاةً فَجَعَلَ يَكْشِفُ صُورَةً صُورَةً ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَتَعْرِفُ؟ فَأَقُولُ لَا حَتَّى كَشَفَ صُورَةً مُغَطَّاةً فَقُلْتُ مَا رَأَيْتُ أَشْبَهَ شَيْءٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ الصُّورَةِ بِهِ كَأَنَّهُ طُولُهُ وجِسْمُهُ وَبَعْدَ مَا بَيَّنَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ قَالَ قَالَ فَتَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُوهُ؟ قَالَ أَظُنُّهُمْ قَدْ فَرَغُوا مِنْهُ قَالَ وَاللهِ لَا يَقْتُلُوهُ وَلَيَقْتُلَنَّ مَنْ يُرِيدُ قَتْلَهُ وَإِنَّهُ لِنَبِيٌّ ولَيُظْهِرَنَّهُ اللهُ وَلَكِنْ قَدْ وَجَبَ حَقُّهُ عَلَيْنَا فَامْكُثْ مَا بَدَا لَكَ وَادْعُ بِمَا شِئْتَ قَالَ فَمَكَثْتُ عِنْدَهُمْ حِينًا ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لَوْ أَطَعْتُهُمْ فَقَدِمْتُ مَكَّةَ فَوَجَدْتُهُمْ قَدْ أَخْرَجُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ قَامَتْ إِلَيَّ قُرَيْشٌ فَقَالُوا قَدْ تَبَيَّنَ لَنَا أَمْرُكَ وَعَرَفْنَا شَأْنَكَ فَهَلُمَّ أَمْوَالَ الصِّبْيَةِ الَّتِي عِنْدَكَ أَسْتَوْدَعَكَهَا أَبُوكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ مَا كُنْتُ لِأَفْعَلُ هَذَا حَتَّى تُفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَ رَأْسِي وجَسَدِي وَلَكِنْ دَعُونِي أَذْهِبُ فأَدْفَعُها إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّ عَلَيْكَ عَهْدَ اللهِ وَمِيثَاقَهُ أَنْ لَا تَأْكُلَ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ قَالَ فَقَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَقَدْ بَلَغَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ الْخَبَرُ فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لِي فِيمَا يَقُولُ «إِنِّي لَأَرَاكَ جَائِعًا هَلُمُّوا طَعَامًا» قُلْتُ لَا آكُلُ حَتَّى أُخْبِرَكَ فَإِنْ رَأَيْتَ أَنْ آكُلَ أَكَلْتُ قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ بِمَا أَخَذُوا عَلَيَّ قَالَ «فَأَوْفِ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْ طَعَامِنَا وَلَا تَشْرَبْ مِنْ شَرَابِنَا»
English Translation
Narrated Jubayr ibn Mut'im: I used to dislike the harm Quraysh caused the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When I feared they would kill him, I left and went to a monastery. The monastery people went to their leader and informed him. He said: "Give him his due hospitality for three days." When three days passed, they saw I had not left. They went to their leader and informed him. He said: "Tell him: We have given you your due hospitality. If you are a trustee, your trust is fulfilled. If you came to visit someone, it is time for you to go to the one you are visiting. If you are a merchant, it is time for you to go out to your trade." I said: "I am not visiting anyone, nor am I a merchant, and I have no share (in trade)." They went to him and informed him. He said: "He must have a matter. Ask him what it is." They came to me and asked. I said: "By Allah, I am only from the town of Ibrahim (Makkah), and my cousin claims he is a prophet. His people have harmed him, and I feared they would kill him, so I left so as not to witness that." They went to their leader and told him my words. He said: "Bring him." I came and told him my story. He said: "You fear they will kill him?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Would you recognize his likeness if you saw it depicted?" I said: "Yes, I saw him recently." He showed me covered images and uncovered them one by one, saying: "Do you recognize him?" I said: "No." Until he uncovered a covered image and I said: "I have never seen anything more similar to him than this image — as if it were his height, his build, and the width between his shoulders." He said: "Do you fear they will kill him?" I said: "I think they have already finished with him." He said: "By Allah, they will not kill him. He will kill whoever seeks to kill him. He is indeed a prophet, and Allah will make him prevail. But his right upon us is established, so stay as long as you wish and ask for whatever you want." I stayed with them for a while, then I decided to comply with them (Quraysh). I returned to Makkah and found they had expelled the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to Madinah. When I arrived, Quraysh confronted me and said: "Your affair has become clear to us and we know your situation. Hand over the wealth of the orphans that your father entrusted to you." I said: "I would never do that until you separate my head from my body. But let me go and I will deliver it to them." They said: "Upon you is the covenant of Allah that you will not eat from his food." He said: I arrived in Madinah and the news had reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I entered upon him and he said to me among what he said: "I see that you are hungry. Bring food." I said: "I will not eat until I tell you." I told him what they had imposed on me. He said: "Fulfill the covenant of Allah; do not eat from our food nor drink from our drink."
