English Translation
Tamim al-Dari prayed two rak'ahs after 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had forbidden prayer after 'Asr. So 'Umar came and struck him with the whip. Tamim gestured to him to sit down while he was still praying. 'Umar sat until Tamim finished. Then Tamim said to 'Umar: "Why did you strike me?" He said: "Because you prayed these two rak'ahs when I have forbidden them." He said: "I prayed them with one who is better than you — with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)." 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It is not about you, O group (of Companions), but I fear that people will come after you who will pray from 'Asr until Maghrib, passing through the hour in which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade prayer, just as they connected prayers between Dhuhr and 'Asr, then they will say: 'We saw so-and-so praying after 'Asr.'"
