English Translation
Ibn al-Khasasiyyah al-Sadusi narrated: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to pledge allegiance to him. He stipulated: "You bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, you pray the five prayers, you fast Ramadan, you pay the zakah, you make pilgrimage to the House, and you strive in the way of Allah." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, as for two of them, I cannot manage: the zakah - for by Allah, I only have ten camels, and they are the livelihood and transport of my family; and as for jihad - they claim that whoever flees has incurred the wrath of Allah, and I fear that when fighting comes, my soul will weaken and I will hate death." The Messenger of Allah withdrew his hand and shook it, then said: "No charity and no jihad - how will you enter Paradise?" So I pledged allegiance to him on all of them.
