Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:12425 حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ غُلَيْبٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجُعْفِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَمَانٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْفَجْرَ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ «مَنْ كَانَ أَصْبَحَ مِنْكُمْ صَائِمًا فَلْيُتِمَّ صَوْمَهُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يُصْبِحْ صَائِمًا فَلَا يَأْكُلَنَّ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمٌ نُصِرَ فِيهِ مُوسَى عَلَى فِرْعَوْنَ فَصَامَتْهُ الْيَهُودُ شُكْرًا فَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالشُّكْرِ»
English Translation
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed Fajr on the day of Ashura, and when he finished, he said: 'Whoever among you began the day fasting, let him complete his fast. And whoever did not begin the day fasting, let him not eat anything, for this is a day on which Musa was victorious over Pharaoh. The Jews fasted it in gratitude, and we have more right to gratitude.'
