Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:1190a حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ أَخْبَرَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ بُنَّةَ الْجُهَنِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ فِي مَسْجِدٍ سَلُّوا فِيهِ سَيْفًا فَهُمْ يَتَعَاطَوْنَهُ بَيْنَهُمْ فَقَالَ «لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا أَوَلَمْ أَنْهَكُمْ عَنْهُ؟ فَإِذَا سَلَّ أَحَدُكُمِ السَّيْفَ فَلْيُغْمِدْهُ ثُمَّ لِيُعْطِيَهُ صَاحِبَهُ كَذَلِكَ»
English Translation
Jundah ibn Abi Umayyah narrated from the pulpit when he had lashed two men who stole from the spoils: Nothing prevented me from cutting their hands except that Busr ibn Arta'ah found a man stealing during an expedition, and he lashed him but did not cut his hand, and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade us from cutting hands during an expedition."
