Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:12007 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ ثنا أَبُو ظُفُرٍ عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ بْنُ مُطَهَّرٍ ثنا نَافِعٌ أَبُو هُرْمُزٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ جَاءَ ثَلَاثَةُ نَفَرٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ الْأَوَّلُ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَعَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ» فَجَاءَ الثَّانِي فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَعَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ» وَجَاءَ الثَّالِثُ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «وَعَلَيْكُمْ» وَأَبُو الْفَتَى جَالِسٌ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ زِدْتَ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا وَلَمْ تَزِدِ ابْنِي شَيْئًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا وَجَدْنَا لَهُ مِنْ زِيَادَةٍ فَرَدَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ»
English Translation
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Three people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The first said: 'Peace be upon you.' The Prophet replied: 'And upon you, and the mercy of Allah.' The second came and said: 'Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.' The Prophet replied: 'And upon you, the mercy of Allah and His blessings.' The third came and said: 'Peace be upon you, the mercy of Allah and His blessings.' The Prophet replied: 'And upon you.' The father of the young man was sitting with the Prophet. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you added to so-and-so and so-and-so but did not add anything to my son.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'We did not find anything more to add, so we returned to him the like of what he said.'
