Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:11999 حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ ثنا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْبَاطِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَحَاتِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْبَاطِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا خُطِبَ إِلَيْهِ بَعْضُ بَنَاتِهِ أَتَى الْخِدْرَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ فُلَانًا يَخْطُبُ فُلَانَةَ» فَإِنْ طَعَنَتْ فِي الْحَائِطِ لَمْ يُزَوِّجْهَا وَإِنْ لَمْ تَطْعَنْ فِي الْجِدَارِ أَنْكَحَهَا
English Translation
Ibn Abbas narrated that whenever one of the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) daughters was sought in marriage, he would go to the curtain (khidr) and say: 'So-and-so is proposing to so-and-so.' If she tapped the wall, he would not marry her off, and if she did not tap the wall, he would marry her off.
