English Translation
Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said one day to his companions: 'What do you consider martyrdom among you?' They said: 'The one killed in the path of Allah, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, is a martyr.' He said: 'Then the martyrs of my ummah would be very few. The one killed in the path of Allah is a martyr. The one who dies on his bed in the path of Allah is a martyr. The one who dies of a stomach disease is a martyr. The one who dies of a sting is a martyr. The one who drowns is a martyr. The one who chokes is a martyr. The one devoured by a wild animal is a martyr. The one who falls from his mount is a martyr. The one killed by a falling structure is a martyr. The one who dies of pleurisy is a martyr. The woman in childbirth who is killed by her child — he drags her by his umbilical cord to Paradise.'
