Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10949 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمَدَنِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ لَيْثٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ مُسْتَكْمِلِ الْإِيمَانِ مَنْ لَمْ يَعُدَّ الْبَلَاءَ نِعْمَةً وَالرَّخاءَ مُصِيبَةً» قَالُوا كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّ الْبَلَاءَ لَا يَتْبَعُهُ إِلَّا الرَّخَاءُ وَكَذَلِكَ الرَّخَاءُ لَا تَتْبَعُهُ إِلَّا الْمُصِيبَةُ وَلَيْسَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ مُسْتَكْمَلِ الْإِيمَانِ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي غَمٍّ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي صَلَاةٍ» قَالُوا وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّ الْمُصَلِّي يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ وَإِذَا كَانَ فِي غَيْرِ صَلَاةٍ إِنَّمَا يُنَاجِي ابْنَ آدَمَ»
English Translation
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'One is not a complete believer in faith who does not consider affliction a blessing and ease a calamity.' They asked: 'How so, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Because affliction is only followed by ease, and likewise ease is only followed by calamity. And one is not a complete believer in faith who is not in a state of concern as long as he is not in prayer.' They asked: 'Why, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Because the one praying is conversing with his Lord, and when he is not in prayer, he is only conversing with the son of Adam.'
