English Translation
Ibn Abbas narrated that Abdullah ibn Umar recited this verse: {Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills} [2:284], and tears flowed from his eyes. This reached Ibn Abbas, who said: 'May Allah forgive Abu Abdur-Rahman. By my life, this verse troubled the Muslims before him, until Allah the Exalted revealed: {Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. It will have what it earned, and it will bear what it has earned} [2:286].' He said: 'The whispering of the soul is what people cannot control, and Allah has decreed for every soul regarding recompense what it has earned.'
