Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10767 حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ سَعِي��ِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓماُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ فَقَالَ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً؟» قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «رَجُلٌ يُمْسِكُ بِرَأْسِ فَرَسِهِ» أَوْ قَالَ «فَرَسٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَوْ يُقْتَلُ» قَالَ «أَفَأُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالَّذِي يَلِيهِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «امْرُؤٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي شِعْبٍ يُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ وَيَعْتَزِلُ شُرُورَ النَّاسِ أَفَأُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشَرِّ النَّاسِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «الَّذِي يُسْأَلُ بِاللهِ وَلَا يُعْطِي بِهِ»
English Translation
Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out while they were sitting and said: 'Shall I not tell you about the best of people in rank?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'A man who holds the reins of his horse — or a horse — in the cause of Allah, until he is killed.' He said: 'Shall I tell you about the one who follows him?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'A man in seclusion in a mountain pass, establishing the prayer, paying the zakat, and keeping away from people's evils. Shall I tell you about the worst of people?' They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'The one who is asked by Allah and does not give by Him.'
