Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10616 حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ قَالَ كَانَ عُمَرُ يَسْأَلُنِي مَعَ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ تَسْأَلُهُ؟ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ مَنْ حَيْثُ تَعْلَمُ فَسَأَلَهُمْ عَنْ {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللهِ وَالْفَتْحُ} فَقُلْتُ إِنَّمَا هُوَ أَجَلُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقَرَأَ السُّورَةَ إِلَى آخِرِهَا إِلَى {كَانَ تَوَّابًا} فَقَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقْتَ
English Translation
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "'Umar used to ask me alongside the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf said to him: 'You ask him?' He said: 'He is from where you know.' Then he asked them about {When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest}. I said: 'It is the approaching death of the Prophet (peace be upon him).' He recited the surah to its end, to {He is ever Accepting of repentance}. 'Umar said: 'You are right.'"
